One Ipswich Town fan is putting Suffolk on the map with an impressive flag during the FIFA World Cup.

Bob Green follows England at every World Cup tournament and Qatar is his seventh outing supporting the Three Lions.

The 58-year-old is a season ticket holder at Portman Road as well as being a member of the England Supporters Travel Club.

He said: "I lived in Lowestoft and I left when I was 16 to go and join the RAF.

"I did 26 years in the RAF and then when I was serving, I used to go and watch England.

"I started in 1988 in Germany at the Euros. It's just like a hobby, really".

When designing his flag for the current tournament, Mr Green said he wanted to help give both his sister's pub and his local pub some "exposure during these tricky times".

Mr Green continued: "My sister, she runs a pub in Lowestoft called The Blues Bar and my local is The Flying Dutchman.

"I decided to get a flag made and put their logos on it with the Ipswich badge and the England badge and then off you go, take it round and get a bit of publicity for them."

To make sure the flag is in a good spot for each match, Bob arrives at the stadium early.

This has paid off, with his flag being spotted by local viewers across coverage of the World Cup.

"I get into the ground early and the gates open at about 7pm for a 10pm kick off, so I get there for about 6.30pm and get in first.

"It's a race to the best pitch. I got one behind the goal the other night when Saka came off.

"When I'm in the ground, my phone is going 'ping, ping, ping' with people spotting me or the flag in the ground."

Mr Green also said his experience of the tournament so far has been "bonkers" and that this World Cup is the most unique he has been to so far.

He also explained how his trip has worked out so far and described what the fan experience has been like in the capital city of Doha.

"I'm very fortunate because, when I came out, I've got an ex-military colleague who lives out here and he's given me a room in his flat which overlooks the bay and the hotels; it's amazing.

"All the tickets come through as England qualify for the next round because you buy unconditional tickets, you see, so you get them all.

"I've paid all the way to the final and if England don't qualify for, like, the semi finals, you get your money back.

"The fans get to the games easily and people are watching two games on the trot, which is the uniqueness of everything being in one city.

"As you come out of the stadium, you can get on a bus and they whip you straight to the next game. The public transport is astonishing.

"In the ground, I go behind the goal with the England supporters and the travel club members.

"It's where football fans like to be - all together singing."

Ahead of England's quarter-final fixture against France, Mr Green has predicted a 2-1 win to England after extra time.

To Mr Green, following his national team is "the best hobby in the world".
