The BT Tower in London is emblazoned with a Suffolk mum-of-three's message of thanks to a charity volunteer who stopped her family from 'reaching rock bottom'.

Suffolk mum Heidi has expressed her gratitude to her volunteer Michelle, who works for family support organisation Home-Start in Suffolk, in rather a unique way.

A picture of Michelle, Heidi and her son Bobby now appears alongside her message of thanks on the BT Tower in London: "Michelle stopped us reaching rock bottom."

She said she was "so pleased" to be able show her appreciation for the organisation and thought it was "lovely" that their picture is being displayed on the tower.

"Home-Start in Suffolk and Michelle were a lifeline for our family and the support we have had has made such a difference to us all," said Heidi.

"I am truly grateful for everything."

Heidi's message is among five thank you notes that will light up the BT Tower throughout this week.

The full message on the Tower reads: "In darkness, stars shine even brighter. No star shines brighter than Home-Start volunteers. Always there for families facing tough times."

The campaign was made possible by BT, who chose Home-Start as their UK national charity partner.

It is designed to stop busy shoppers, residents and commuters in their tracks and raise awareness of the difficulties families are facing in the winter period.

Home-Start in Suffolk's volunteer recruitment manager Helen Orvis said: "It's so lovely to see Heidi's message to Michelle in lights.

"There is such a special bond between Home-Start volunteers and the families they are working with.

"Heidi and Michelle's relationship is the perfect example of the friendship and trust that is built and the difference that having that support can make to a family."

In the last year, Home-Start in Suffolk's team of more than 280 volunteers has provided support to a record figure of more than 1,500 families.

Ms Orvis added that this increase shows "no signs of slowing," highlighting that they must continue to recruit and train more volunteers to ensure families have access to the support they need.

The quotes will be displayed on the 190-metre high BT Tower from Monday, December 5 to Friday, December 9, 9am to 4pm.
