Did you see any familiar sights during last night's Detectorists special?

Earlier this year, BBC sitcom Detectorists used Suffolk as a prominent filming location for its upcoming Christmas special.

The filming, which most recently saw Saxmundham railway station temporarily renamed Henburystone, concluded in September.

The BAFTA award-winning series stars Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones and tells the tale of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club, with series one and two filmed in and around Framlingham between 2014 and 2017.

It follows the highs and lows of two keen amateur metal detectorists as they amble across the countryside, searching for any kind of life-changing treasure, all the while trying to deal with the women in their lives.

On Boxing Day evening, the highly anticipated festive special aired and eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted a number of Suffolk landmarks in the episode.

  • Lance's flat appeared at the start of the episode and its real life location is Double Street in Framlingham.
  • The Two Brewers pub that was shown is actually The Castle Inn in Framlingham, which sits at the base of Framlingham Castle. The castle itself was not actually visible.
  • Church Street in Framlingham also appeared, with Andy walking down the road after leaving the pub.
  • St Michael's Rooms in Framlingham doubles as the Scout Hut that the Danebury Metal Detecting Club uses as a headquarters and appeared multiple times in the Boxing Day special.
  • Lance and Andy are seen running down Crown and Anchor Lane off Church Street in Framlingham, by the real-life Watson and Walpole restaurant, right at the end of the episode.
  • Saxmundham railway station also made an appearance under its temporary name of Henburystone station, as Lance and Andy boarded a train to go the British Museum in London.
  • There were also several scenes recorded in the rural countryside - the real-life location was unclear, but it was known that Detectorists recorded in the Rendlesham area in late autumn.
