A Suffolk police chief has warned New Year's Eve party-goers to consider the serious consequences of "reckless behaviour".
Speaking of this year's Christmas celebrations, Chief Superintendent Marina Ericson said: "Overall, the Christmas period was a relatively safe and uneventful one in terms of policing without any major incidents.
"As planned, we had additional officers and staff on duty at those times and in those places where we anticipated our highest demand."
Looking ahead to the New Year's parties planned for the end of this week, Chief Supt Ericson said that policing arrangements were put in place months in advance, to include additional officers in busy areas near clubs and bars.
She added: "The key thing to remember is to enjoy yourself responsibly and respect others, as reckless behaviour, such as drinking too much, can have serious consequences.
"We won't be afraid to spoil the party if you fall foul of the law."
