A landlord is on the lookout for a tenant to take over a Suffolk village pub that has been closed for more than five years.

The Swan in Little Waldingfield, between Sudbury and Lavenham, was bought by Justin Nevison-Grainger back in the summer of 2017.

Mr Nevison-Grainger, managing director of Black Fox Finance, applied to begin renovation work at the pub in The Street just before the start of the Covid pandemic.

But the lockdowns meant getting builders in to start at the pub proved a struggle, Mr Nevison-Grainger said.

However, The Swan has now been given a fresh look on both the inside and outside.

The pub comes with a beer garden, patio and space for 50 covers.

Its original pub sign frame has been restored by Pakenham blacksmith Martyn Guest, while the signwriting was by Wayne Tanswell of Sudbury.

Mr Nevison-Grainger, who is also co-owner and director of Nethergate Brewery in Long Melford, said The Swan is now ready to be reopened for the first time in almost six years.

He said: "I bought the pub back in July of 2017 and it was bust. It took two and a half years to get all the planning permissions in place.

"Then we went into Covid and we couldn't get any builders - we had some quotes saying they could start in 2023. After lockdown they were all flat-out.

"But it is now in tip-top condition.

"It is in a location that is a bit of an oasis in the countryside between Lavenham and Sudbury. It has been beautifully renovated and it is a cracking place to live."
