A 17-year-old youth indecently assaulted a nine-year-old schoolgirl while he was on holiday in a Suffolk seaside village, it has been alleged.

James Rhind, now aged 23, allegedly offered to show the schoolgirl “a cool spot” that if it was rubbed would feel “really good”, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He had pointed to where it was and allegedly asked the girl if she would like him to touch it for her but she said “no”, said Mitchell Cohen, prosecuting.

Rhind had later asked the girl again if she would like him to show her how to do it and this time he had allegedly unbuckled her shorts and touched her over her underwear.

He had then allegedly rubbed her between her legs after her underwear had been removed but had stopped when she said it hurt, said Mr Cohen.

Rhind, of Valley Drive, Durham, who had been on holiday at Walberswick, is also alleged to have subsequently kissed the girl on her shoulder and thigh.

He has denied assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and sexual activity with a child.

The court heard that Rhind had allegedly confessed to touching the girl indecently and said he was ashamed of what he’d done after being confronted by her father.

However, when he was interviewed by police he denied touching the alleged victim inappropriately.

The trial continues.
