A suspected crack cocaine and heroin dealer has been charged after being arrested in Bury St Edmunds town centre.

Police witnessed what was believed to be an exchange between two men in Parkway on Thursday, December 29.

A man was later arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning.

Another man was also stopped by officers and arrested on suspicion of possession of class A and class B drugs.

Anil Cayir, of Great Cambridge Road, Enfield, was subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug, namely crack cocaine, possession with intent to supply a class A controlled drug, namely heroin, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and being concerned in the supply of heroin.

The 22-year-old appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich the following day, where he was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, January 27.

George Barr, of Hospital Road, Bury St Edmunds, was also charged with possession of a class A controlled drug, namely crack cocaine, possession of a class B controlled drug, namely amphetamine, and possession of a class B controlled drug, namely cannabis.

The 52-year-old has been bailed and will appear before Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Friday, March 3.
