Nottingham Knockers have been reported visiting homes in Stowmarket this week.

According to Suffolk Trading Standards, the conmen were calling at properties in the town on Monday night.

These reports come after homes in Haverhill were targeted in the build-up to Christmas in the past weeks.

There were also further reports of Nottingham Knockers in Diss, at the Norfolk border, on Monday evening.

It is not known whether the Nottingham Knockers remain in the area or have moved on elsewhere in the county.

The individuals are claiming to have been in prison and are on a youth offending scheme, attempting to mend their way, Trading Standards said.

They will go on to try and sell homeowners everyday househould products at very high prices.

Residents are being advised to refrain from buying at the doorstep and not to buckle to pressure from salespeople offering supposedly one-off 'buy it now' low prices.

Nottingham knockers work in groups across the country but they are not involved in any officially recognised offender rehabilitation programme.

Many do not possess Pedlar's Certificates, which are issued by police.

Suffolk Trading Standards is telling residents to refuse to buy products if approached at the door.

Earlier this month, Nottingham knockers were also spotted in Bury St Edmunds.

Doorstep callers can be reported to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
