Suffolk's Byron restaurants are at risk as the chain reportedly seeks to halve its number of sites.

According to Sky News, nearly half of the burger chain's restaurants are set to close after a "brush with insolvency".

About 10 of the chain's 21 remaining sites will shut their doors as part of a "pre-pack administration engineered by Calverton, its owner".

There are two Byron restaurants in Suffolk, with one in Bury St Edmunds and another in Ipswich.

There are additional sites in nearby cities Cambridge and Norwich.

A list of the stores set to close has not yet been revealed, leaving Suffolk's burger-lovers in limbo.

Byron arrived in Bury St Edmunds in 2015 and moved into the Arc shopping centre.

The Ipswich site reopened in late 2020 after temporarily closing during the Covid pandemic.

Sky News said other casual dining chains at risk include Carluccio's and Prezzo.

Byron has been approached for comment.
