Floral tributes and heartfelt messages have been left at the scene where a 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in a Suffolk town.

Harley Barfield, from Haverhill, died two days after being attacked in a car park next to Strasbourg Square in the town on Monday.

Another boy, also aged 16, has been charged with his murder and has appeared at Suffolk Magistrates' Court.

Police were called to the car park near the town centre at about 3.05pm on Monday.

After officers discovered Harley was injured, he was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for treatment, before being transferred to the nearby Royal Papworth Hospital in a critical condition.

However, he died on Wednesday morning.

After his death was confirmed, friends, family and other mourners have left flowers and tributes near the car park where he was fatally injured.

One read: "Love you Harley. We will see you soon brother. (We) will never forget you. You're missed by everyone."

"H.B. – one of a kind."

Another friend said: "We will all miss you Harley. You made us all laugh and you were such a nice lad.

"We are all praying for you. Love you brother – we all do."

Harley was a student at a school that was part of Unity Schools Partnership.

A spokesman for the trust said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Harley and, on behalf of all staff and students across all our schools, we offer our deepest condolences.

"All local schools will continue to support their students through this very difficult time. If you feel your child would value any additional support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your school."

Police are appealing for anyone who may have captured any video footage of the incident, or who has seen any videos circulating on social media or being shared in messaging groups, to bring them to the attention of officers.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Major Investigation Team at Suffolk police, quoting reference number 1605/23.
