An anonymous artist has donated a bespoke painting celebrating a passion for books to a Bury St Edmunds primary school.

St Christopher's Church of England Primary School, near Red Lodge, received the artwork last week, which has been made to look like a bookshelf crammed with children's stories.

The artist requested a list of 49 books the school wanted the art to feature and then added extra titles themself to make a total of 97 books illustrated in the work.

The mysterious donor spoke with school secretary Elaine Simpson, who said: "We chatted on the phone about our shared passion for stories and at the end of the call the artist asked if we would be interested in having a piece of work carried out as a gift by them on the strict understanding that they remain anonymous."

The painting includes illustrations of books including The Tiger Who Came to Tea, We're Going on a Bear Hunt and Paddington Bear.

The artwork took two months to complete and will now be hung in the school's foyer for everyone to enjoy.
