A group of Ipswich Town fans are set to head to Fortuna Dusseldorf to show their support in an ongoing relationship between the two clubs.

Since 2006, Fortuna Dusseldorf fans have been showing their support for the Blues, by coming over every year to watch a match.

It has led to a strong relationship forming between the two sets of fans, including a marriage.

With Fortuna fans coming over for the Plymouth Argyle match on January 14, it is now the turn of Ipswich fans.

Around 30 have signed up so far for the trip to Germany on March 11 for Fortuna's game against Heidenheim in the 2. Bundesliga.

One of the organisers, Nathan Parris, who is also the drummer at Portman Road, said: "Over the years, I have got to know a few of them and get on really well with Dusseldorf fans when they come over.

"They come over here every year, so it is nice for us to repay the favour and go to them every year.

"We might be planning another trip in May as well depending on play-offs with Ipswich, as that is when we normally go over.

"We certainly want to make this a yearly thing like they do."

This will be Mr Parris' third trip over to Dusseldorf for football, having been twice previously, once with a group of around 100 Town fans making the trip.

He continued: "I am really excited about this.

"Can't wait really.

"I am Ipswich and England through and through, but Fortuna is a team that I look out for results wise and wish them to do well."

Both he and another organiser, Aidan Ashton have been planning this trip over the past week, with tickets being booked in bulk so that all the travelling fans can sit together in a section of the stadium.

A Whatsapp chat has been set up for fans that are going, and tickets are being bought the weekend of January 28/29.

The Fortuna Blues group was recently over in Suffolk for the Tractors Boys clash with Plymouth.
