For people who love their food, Bury St Edmunds and its surrounding area has a seemingly never-ending list of amazing restaurants.

The most recent edition of the Michelin Guide has picked out five places in and around the west Suffolk town that foodies need to experience.

Here are the five restaurants that made the list...

1. Pea Porridge

Famously, Pea Porridge remains the first and only restaurant in Suffolk to obtain a Michelin star.

It opened in 2009 and prides itself on a "produce-driven approach" to cooking, sourcing many ingredients from the surrounding area.

2. 1921 Angel Hill

Where: 19-21 Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds IP33 1UZ

1921 takes a unique approach to fine dining, with "relaxed" service and letting the food speak for itself.

Located just round the corner from the historic Abbey Gardens, the main courses are designed to reflect Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk.

3. Packhorse Inn

Heading out toward Newmarket, be sure to put the Packhorse Inn on your list of places to visit for a quality meal.

The Micheline Guide states: "As for the cooking, the kitchen champions local and seasonal produce in assured, sensibly priced dishes".

4. Maison Bleue

This French-modern eaterie is a big player in the Bury restaurant scene and is well established as one of the best places to go for a real treat.

Our review labelled it as "in a class of its own" and questioned why a Michelin star had not yet been awarded.

5. Upstairs at The Mill

Making the 15-minute drive to Tuddenham to visit The Mill is well worth it for the food on offer here.

The set lunch menu at The Mill is one of Suffolk's best kept secrets.
