A former Bury St Edmunds pub will be partly demolished under new plans to make the building 'financially viable', following the recent frequent change-over of occupants.
An application has been submitted to West Suffolk Council to demolish part of the former The Tavern pub in St John's Street, Bury St Edmunds.
Over the past four years, there have been three different occupants for the ground floor of the property and before this, it served as a public house and bar for 30 years.
The upper floor is used as accommodation and is currently being converted, thus meaning that the entire building is currently vacant.
The design and access statement details the "demolition of the rear of the building to create a service area with storage and new access to the existing first floor accommodation."
These changes are proposed in the hopes that it will help with the "fairly rapid change-over of occupants," as feedback given has shown that the commercial floor area is "too large to be financially viable."
