The trial of a 33-year-old lorry driver accused of causing the death of a Suffolk motorcyclist on the A14 at Ipswich has been adjourned until August.

The five day trial of Sergejs Baikovs of Tattersall Road, Boston, was due to get under way on Monday, February 27, but will now start on August 7.

Baikovs has denied causing the death of 61-year-old Maurice Brame, who was from Tostock, by dangerous driving following a collision between his lorry and Mr Brame’s motorcycle on the A14 between Sproughton and the Copdock interchange on September 21 last year.

At a hearing on Friday, February 24, Judge Martyn Levett directed that a further case management hearing should take place on May 19 and allowed Baikovs’ bail to continue.

Police were called to the scene of the crash shortly after 6am on September 21.

Ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crews were also in attendance, but Mr Brame died at the scene.

In November, around 50 bikers from around Suffolk took part in a funeral procession for Mr Brame - described by his family as having "a heart of gold" - who died while driving to work at GMA Haulage, where he had worked for 27 years

In a tribute following his death, his family said: "The great loves of his life were his fiancée Jenny of eight years, his motorbike, his football team Leeds United and his music.

"Years ago, Maurice and his brother Glyn use to run a disco together called 'Masterblaster' when it was CB Radio and his call name was 'Woodchopper'.

“Maurice was a funny chap and always said he should have been a comedian with all the little sayings he would come out with.

“Anyone that knew or met Maurice, he would leave a lasting impression on them.

"Maurice had a heart of gold, he was very loving and would do anything for anyone if he could."
