Condolences have been expressed for family and friends after the body of a man was found in a Suffolk cemetery.

Police were called by the ambulance service on Thursday afternoon to reports of a man found dead in a cemetery in Stowmarket.

Leaders in the town have expressed their sympathies in response to the news.

"I feel real sympathy to any friends and family of the individual who was found there, whatever the circumstances."

Stowmarket Town Council, which owns and manages the two cemeteries in the town, has also communicated their condolences.

Town Clerk David Blackburn said: "From our perspective, Suffolk police are investigating this very sad incident and Stowmarket Town Council will help them in any way we can.

"We understand that the initial view of the police is that they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances to the death.

"We have much sympathy with the family and send our condolences to them."

Police were called at around 12.40pm to the cemetery, off Violet Hill Road.

According to police, the death is currently being treated as unexplained but they do not currently believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

Suffolk police confirmed that the man's next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
