Pickle the Jack Russell's luck has changed after a flock of people offered to adopt her - but the search for her original owners still continues.

After a six-week chase across Suffolk, Pickle was finally captured in Needham Market last week by the Finding Ipswich Dogs Organisation (FIDO).

Sam French, 46, is one of FIDO's founding members and is currently looking after the Jack Russell while they search for a suitable home.

"She's a little dear and she's doing so well," said Miss French.

"When she came in her skin was bright red because she had fleas, but I'm happy to say that she's perfectly healthy now."

After an initial vet check-up, in which it was decided that Pickle can't be more than two years old, it was also found that her microchip isn't registered.

They are waiting to hear from the chip implanter and have also sent Pickle's picture to local veterinary practices.

She will remain at Miss French's home for the mandatory 28 days in case an owner is found and after this point, Suffolk Animal Rescue will start advertising for her adoption.

Miss French said it's "lovely" that so many people have come forward offering to rehome Pickle.

"There are some really nice options out there, so I know she'll get plenty of love," she said.

"I'm just sorry that we have to turn so many people down!"

It is hoped that Pickle's original owners will come forward and the reasons behind her Suffolk-wide chase will become clear.

Miss French implores them to get in touch, saying: "It's hard to see why anyone has let her go because I haven't found a fault with her yet.

"However, I understand that there are lots of different reasons that someone may be forced to give up a dog, including the cost element.

"We would love to know her exact age and medical history so we can rehome her with the right person."
