A 16th century cottage has come up for sale on one of Suffolk’s most photographed streets.
Box Cottage on Prentice Street in Lavenham – one of the best preserved medieval villages in the country and star of the screen – is for sale with Carter Jonas at a guide price of £495,000.
The property is as characterful as you would expect a home on this street and in this village to be, as both are well-known for their wonky and sometimes colourful timber-framed houses.
The village has appeared in a number of films and television shows over the years. In 2010 it was transformed into Godric’s Hollow, a fictional town in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Box Cottage dates back to the 16th century and is Grade II listed. According to a spokesperson for selling agents Carter Jonas, it once belonged to an owner of considerable “wealth and status”, signified by its “magnificent” timber frame.
A substantial extension was added to the rear of the property in the mid-20th century and it has a modern kitchen, but extensive timber detailing and huge ceilings retain its charm.
