Developers are pushing forward with plans to convert Newmarket police station and magistrates' court into 15 luxury apartments.

West Suffolk Council granted permission to turn the old court and police station into 15 apartments in November 2020 and Newmarket Holdings Limited snapped up the building in a £1m deal in January 2021

Alternative plans to convert the building on the corner of Vicarage Road and Lisburn Road into 17 flats were withdrawn in July last year.

However, progress has been made on the original proposals for 15 luxury apartments with the applicant requesting permission to discharge a number of conditions on the initial planning application.

The application design statement said the proposals will be "maintaining the existing character and street scene to both Vicarage Road and Lisburn Road" and "draw heavily on the distinctive local architectural features of the existing building and enhance the character of the site".

Solar panels, dedicated car parking and electric vehicle charging points are also to be included.
