Greater Anglia is to say farewell to the train that provided the backbone of its commuter services with a special tour of the region next month.
Class 321 electric units were the last trains to be designed and built by BR between 1988 and 1991. They operated on electric lines across the country.
They have now been succeeded by the Alstom Aventra trains, and the last 321 will be going on a special trip from Liverpool Street on April 29.
It will visit Stowmarket, Clacton, Walton, and Southend - all stations that the trains served.
Greater Anglia is the last passenger operator to use the trains, although a few are being converted for fast parcels work in the north west of England.
Tickets for the trip can only be booked online and it will raise money for three charities - including East Anglia's Children's Hospice (EACH).
The price for this one-off trip is £70 (or £35 for children aged 5 – 15), with all profits from the event shared between EACH, Havens Hospices, and the Railway Mission.
