An Easter egg drive is hoping to stop parents having to make the choice between a meal and a treat for their child.

Leading the push is Claire Thompson, 36, a staff member at Coop Funeralcare in Stowmarket.

As a single mother to four children, she understands how "incredibly difficult" it can be to juggle the demands of parenting.

"Times are really hard and a lot of children won't even be getting the basics," she said.

"For some parents, the choice will be between a packet of spaghetti or an Easter egg."

Miss Thompson said that while it may seem unnecessary, having an Easter egg will mean a lot to struggling families and vulnerable children.

She added: "No-one wants their child seeing their friends and having to be the only one without something.

"All children should feel special at Easter."

Anyone wishing to donate can bring an egg into Coop Funeralcare on Ipswich Street, Stowmarket and drop it off in their collection box.

After Thursday, April 6, the donations will be distributed to families in need by Acorns Family Hub.
