A Suffolk councillor has raised concerns about erosion on a section of the county's coast following the loss of homes in Norfolk.

East Suffolk councillor David Beavan, who represents Southwold, said there had been further cliff erosion at Covehithe, near Southwold, and at Eastern Bavents.

He was reflecting after the sea claimed homes further up the coast at Hemsby.

The effects of coastal erosion have been a long-term problem in the area and in June 2022, the EADT reported how Eastern Bavents resident Anne Jones had lost hundreds of acres of farmland.

Easton Bavents was once a bustling village and England's most easterly point but rapid erosion has seen a series of houses being demolished over the past 25 years.

Cllr Beavan said: "Houses falling off the cliff at Hemsby last month followed an erosive winter at Thorpeness and Pakefield. We are not immune here as the recent picture of Covehithe shows.

"The cliffs at Easton Bavants are eroding metres every year threatening to outflank the seawall above the Pier and flood Buss Creek."
