A dog seized by Suffolk police on suspicion of being stolen has now been rehomed.

On Saturday, February 4, police stopped a white Ford Transit tipper van towing a caravan in Newmarket.

Whilst talking to the occupants, two brown Spaniels, named Bramble and Bella, were noticed in a wooden box in the rear of the vehicle, Suffolk Constabulary said.

After scanning the dogs for microchips, one came back as being stolen from Yorkshire and the Doncaster area and has since been rehomed.

A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, but were released without charge due to insufficient evidence said a police spokesman.

The second dog could not be established as stolen and was therefore returned to them.

Police would advise dog owners to microchip their pets and ensure details are kept up-to-date, in line with regulations under the Microchipping Act 2015.
