A man has organised a special treat as a "massive thanks" for the three teenagers who picked up and rescued him after his fall in a Suffolk park.

Robin Kett, 71, spent five days in hospital recovering from the fall, in Crowley Park in Needham Market.

He has been left temporarily in a wheelchair while his broken foot, tibia and fibula, and ankle, and the hope is he will be able to walk normally by mid-June.

Mr Kett had taken a tumble and broken his leg while walking his dog in Crowley Park on the evening of Saturday, March 11.

Hearing his shouts, three Stowupland High School pupils - Oliver O'Neill, 15, Charley Bridges, 15, and Alfie Hunt, 16 - came to his aid.

The boys called an ambulance, but when it became clear there would be an hour-long wait for one to come, the young men carried him between them into his car to be taken to hospital.

Now, Mr Kett has organised a special trip to introduce them to Speedway, on the evening of Thursday, March 23, as Ipswich Witches begin their season at home to Peterborough Panthers.

Mr Kett described how there was a "shiny circle of mud" that he didn't see, which caused him to fall when walking his dog.

He said: "The lads carried me and put me in the car. At one point, I said I was a Norwich supporter and they joked that if they had known that they would have left me there.

"It is lovely to have a good news story about youngsters in the area.

"It was cold and I was lying on the wet ground. I did not have my mobile phone on me. I could have laid there for quite some time.

"An enormous thanks to the lads. They were so kind. They didn't laugh or anything, they were very adult. They were a credit.

"I don't know what I would have done without them rescuing me. I can't thank them enough."
