A Suffolk woman is to embark on a 60-mile bus journey to Norfolk, which will cost less than a typical cinema ticket.

Jess Fitch, from Little Bealings near Woodbridge, will be setting off from the town to finish the journey in Cromer today (Friday, March 31).

Thanks to the £2 single fare bus cap - a national temporary incentive to get more people using buses - the journey will only cost her £6.

The 43-year-old will first take the 113 Simonds bus from Ipswich to Diss, which will take 1 hour 20 minutes.

East Anglian Daily Times:

She will then change buses to the 1 Konectbus to Norwich for 1 hour 5 minutes, before getting the X44 Sanders Coaches to Cromer, which will take another hour and 12 minutes.

The trek will cover 60 miles as the crow flies, the equivalent of 71 miles by road, and take about five hours.

The journey coincides with the launch of a competition, by national sustainable transport charity Campaign for Better Transport, to make more people aware of the £2 bus fare scheme.

East Anglian Daily Times:

The competition is being run throughout April to see how far people can travel by bus in one day. The journey can have up to three ‘legs’, but no leg can cost more than £2.

The winner will win £150 in National Trust vouchers.

Ms Fitch saids he is "very much" looking forward to the journey.

She said: “I love travelling by bus. I have never travelled so far by bus before. I especially enjoyed riding with my kids when they were little - every journey was an adventure.

East Anglian Daily Times:

"Buses are so important for the environment and communities rely on them. The £2 bus fare is a great initiative, but not everyone knows about it."

The fare cap is being implemented by bus companies across the country, and has now been extended to the end of June.
