A Suffolk mayor says he is "sad to see" one of his town's longstanding shops close, but believes a change in shopping habits has contributed to it shutting.

M&Co in Ipswich Street, Stowmarket, will close its doors for the final time on April 13.

It is the latest branch in Suffolk to close after the chain fell into administration.

Barry Salmon, mayor of Stowmarket, said: "I am genuinely sad to see it go and I think people in the town are.

"The problem has been we have all learned to shop in a different way. We tend to stay at home and shop online."

It is the latest shop in the town to close, as Little Pig Bakery in Station Road West shut at the beginning of this month

Mr Salmon added the town council is doing as much as possible to improve the town.

"At town council level all we can do is try our best to make the town look attractive," he added.

"We can really do our bit way as much as anyone else.

"It is a sad sort of situation as it would be better if we can keep the shops in the town."

The Woodbridge branch of M&Co closed last week, while the store in Haverhill will shut doiwn this coming Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Sudbury North Street branch has announced it  will also close its doors for the final time on April 15.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "We close our doors on Saturday, April 15.

"We will miss our lovely customers who had been with us through all the hard times."

The store in Beccles closed at the start of April.
