An 'urgently required' CT scanner has been proposed for West Suffolk Hospital, responding to recent growth in patient demand.
Plans have been submitted to replace the existing lorry loaded mobile unit located within a staff car park with a permanent CT scanning facility.
If approved by West Suffolk Council, the building will be located in the staff car parking site for 12 months before being relocated to a more permanent location.
The planning application states that the "urgently required" proposal for the Bury St Edmunds hospital is a "direct result of the recent growth in patient demand".

Located next to the Day Surgery & Eye Treatment Centre, the site was previously used as a staff car park and will be returned to this use once the CT scanner is relocated.
The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust will not be substituting the lost staff car parking elsewhere and they note that the current arrangement has not placed any additional pressure on the parking facilities.
