An Ipswich Town fan is set to complete a 140km cycle challenge from St Albans to Portman Road in time for the League One home match against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Jason Wills will set off from St Albans on Friday.

He plans to cycle 100km to Sudbury, before completing his final 40km on the day of the match, arriving at Portman Road at 12.30pm on April 15.

He is then set to join the Ipswich Town Foundation stand in the Fanzone before the Blues kick off.

Mr Wills said: "I have never cycled to Portman Road, and I am really excited about it.

"It was quite a last-minute decision, to be honest, and with the rail strikes and bus replacements over the weekend, I will probably be quicker."

The 54-year-old is no stranger to challenges, having undertaken previous fundraisers in aid of his daughter, Maddie, who was diagnosed with type one diabetes when she was nine.

He has since raised around £10,000 for diabetes charity JDRF and has also signed up to cycle from Sunderland to Ipswich in honour of Darby Rimmer, a multi-neurone disease charity, in honour of Marcus Stewart.

With Saturday being the dedicated Ipswich Town Foundation fixture, Mr Wills decided he wanted to raise money for the foundation.

He said: "This is a good cause, they do so much great work in the community and they support children, and any charity that supports children, strike chords with any person out there."

Mr Wills is also planning to stop off at The Greyhound in Ipswich, which has also announced that 50p from every pint sold on Saturday will be donated to the Ipswich Town Foundation.
