Late-night radio host Nick Risby is the latest victim of the BBC's cull as Radio Suffolk services are slashed.

Mr Risby has hosted the 10pm-1am show across the whole of East Anglia for 18 years - and has built up a loyal listenership from Luton to Lowestoft and from Clacton to Corby.

However he has told his Facebook followers that the show is finishing on Friday, May 12.

He told them: "The last 18 years of hosting the show have been amazing and I can't thank you enough for your support and loyalty.

"As I frequently say on air, 'without you the programme would be rubbish' so thank you once again.

"We've got another month together so until May 12th, the Good Ship Lollipop sails on!"

His departure will come six weeks after that of Mark Murphy who left Radio Suffolk at the start of this month after 33 years with the station.

The BBC is currently going through a process of making plans for who will host the various local, and regional programmes that will replace traditional county radio stations.

It is not yet decided who will present which local programmes - and which radio studios they will be broadcast from.

Once that is decided, the final shape of broadcasting for the East of England, Northamptonshire and the upper Thames Valley area will be settled.

The new BBC radio structure is expected to come into force in June at the earliest.

Before then more well-known radio voices are expected to sign off for the last time over the next few weeks.

Their roles are expected to be filled by freelance broadcasters and other staff until the full line-ups are confirmed.
