Planning permission has been granted for 75 new homes near a Suffolk village.

East Suffolk Council has approved Permisson Homes' plans for the site to the east of Redwald Road in Rendlesham.

The development will feature a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, along with a one-bedroom and apartment and a three-bedroom bungalow.

There will also be community orchards, allotments and play space for youngsters in the plans.

Of the proposed properties, 25 would be affordable housing, according to the design and access statement prepared by Persimmon Homes.

In the statement, the developers said the proposal would 'build upon the identity, character and historical context of Rendlesham'.

It added: "The design responds to best practice context-led analysis which is informed by the opportunities and constraints presented by the site, including the retention and enhancement of natural landscape features of the site, a well-connected neighbourhood where residents have easy access to public transport, community facilities, open space and other amenities and a good mix of dwelling size, types and tenures."

It is not the first time that an application has gone in to build homes in the area.

Christchurch Property Company Limited put in a much larger application for 290 homes off Redwald Road back in early 2018.

The development was rejected by the planning committee at Suffolk Coastal District Council, because the development was largely outside of the boundaries of the village.

The adverse highway impact, the impact on nearby special protection areas, poor relationship with existing development were also cited by the council in its refusal of the previous submission.

An appeal was put in by the developers against the council’s decision to the Planning Inspectorate in August 2018 but was eventually withdrawn.
