A cat narrowly escaped death after coming home with a fox snare attached to it.
The pet returned to its home in Stoke Road, Thorndon, on Saturday, May 13 with the remnants of a snare.
The National Anti Snaring Campaign (NASC) said the snare looked as though "someone had cut it" but left it attached.
Simon Wild, of the NASC, said: "This was a fox snare and they are usually set by gamekeepers.
"This cat had a lucky escape as snares can kill due to the cheese wire effect.
“Snares are a cruel menace to wildlife and pets.
"This year Wales is banning them and Scotland may soon follow. It is about time England moved to ban them.”
The NASC campaigns against the sale, manufacture and use of animal snares in the UK as well as conducting investigations and research into the suffering to wildlife and domestic pets caused by snares.
