There is disappointment in a Suffolk town after a derelict pub failed to sell at auction.

The former Scarlett Pimpernell pub in Strasbourg Square, Haverhill, was up for sale at the Auction House in London on May 24.

The pub, also known as The Vixen, had a guide price of £900,000, but failed to attract a buyer.

After being empty for more than a decade, it is hoped a resolution for the building can be found.

Councillor Pat Hanlon, who represents Haverhill East, described the situation as "sad".

He said: "This is all rather sad for the people that live in Strasbourg Square and on the Chalkstone Estate, seeing the once lovely facility the Vixen/Scarlett Pimpernell go to ruin, especially after the owners put in planning permission for flats and shops.

"The price at auction was way too high, so no surprise it failed to sell.

"The present owners must think again about trying to make such a large profit on the land, to the cost for the new buyer building flats and shops, by making it a fair cost to the buyer and doing something about the derelict pub that is an eyesore for the people that live in Strasbourg Square and the Chalkstone Estate."
