Farming for the future is one of the main themes of this year's Suffolk Show.

And the number of children leading animals out in livestock classes helps make the point that attracting the young is vital.

Young handler competitions have always been a feature of the show, but now more youngsters than ever are taking part in Suffolk's largest single event.

Children usually lead out young animals - lambs, foals and calves - and it is important to get them involved early said honorary show director John Taylor.

He said: "We don't charge the young handlers because we really do want to encourage their involvement.

"If you lead a calf out at the Suffolk Show when you're eight years old, you'll remember that for life."
