The theft of £5,000 worth of tools from a parked truck at the Suffolk Show is disappointing says the event's director and "against the ethics of our lovely county show".

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a Nissan Navara pick-up truck was broken into between 8am and 8pm on the first day of the show last Wednesday.

The incident took place in the Bucklesham Road car park.

The owner of the vehicle, who was working at the show, returned to their vehicle to find the rear boot door lock mechanism had been damaged.

It is believed that about £5,000 of power tools and hand tools were stolen.

John Taylor, the Suffolk Show director, expressed his disappointment after hearing the news as the incident was not reported to his team.

He added: "It’s disappointing to hear that this happened.

"We have security on site, but the car park is such a large area to patrol. We’ve got people who have been here for 18 years doing the security job at the main gate.

"I’m disappointed that someone has taken an opportunity to do that. I feel for the people involved.

"We’ve all had something stolen in the past, and it’s rather against the ethic of our lovely county show.

"We’ve had a lovely two days with a successful show."

The 192nd event saw tens of thousands of people enjoy the offerings at Trinity Park across May 31 and June 1.

Mr Taylor had described feeling ecstatic after the final guests had left.

Speaking last Thursday, the director said: "There had been real fears that last year's success would be hard to follow: "But it's clear that people have come out again - that's just what we had hoped for."
