An agreement between the franchisee and Greene King is the reason for a temporary closure of a Stowmarket pub.

The company has issued a statement following the decision to close The Royal Oak in Stowmarket.

On Tuesday afternoon, the pub announced it would be closing temporarily on Facebook, after reopening in late summer 2022 following a £320,000 revamp.

A spokesperson for Greene King said: "We have agreed with the franchisee at the Royal Oak in Stowmarket he will no longer be running the pub.

"It is therefore temporarily closed.

"We are working hard to reopen the pub for the Stowmarket community as soon as possible."

Greene King has owned the pub since 2022, but does not manage the day-to-day running.

The council has not withdrawn the premises licence for The Royal Oak, with the pub temporarily shut while a new franchisee is being found to take over the running of the business.

On the Mid Suffolk District Council licencing site the latest application is for the removal of the premises supervisor, with no designated premises supervisor being named.
