Dozens of Boot stores across Suffolk are at risk after bosses announce hundreds of closures.

The retailer has revealed plans to close 300 stores across the UK.

In its quarterly results Boots said: "Over the next year Boots will continue to consolidate a number of stores in close proximity to each other."

And James Kehoe, global chief financial officer at Boots parent company, Walgreens Boots Alliance, said: "We will continue to optimise our locations and opening hours, and expect to close an additional 300 locations in the UK and 150 locations in the US."

In all cases of closures, there will be an alternative store remaining open less than three miles away.

Many of the shops due to shut are loss-making and two-thirds were within walking distance of each other.

It is not yet clear which stores have been earmarked for closure.
