Woman raped in Colchester sparking police investigation

A woman was allegedly raped in a housing estate in Colchester, with police launching an investigation in the incident.

Police are now investigating the incident after a woman reported that she had been raped in the Abbey Field area shortly after 4.30am on Saturday.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, of Essex Police, appealed for anyone in the area at the time to come forward.

He said: "Officers are carrying out enquiries in the Abbey Fields area of Colchester to establish the facts.

"At this time, we do not believe there is a risk to the wider community.

"Anyone who has a dash cam and was in this area of Colchester in the early hours of the morning on Saturday (July 15) should check the footage to see if they have captured anything that would help us."

Essex Police has asked the public to quote incident 194 of July 15 when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.
