An inquest has opened into the death of a 55-year-old Brandon man who died at an independent living care home.

Suffolk Coroners' Court in Ipswich heard on Friday that Bruce Black had been living in the unnamed residential home since July 22.

Mr Black was unable to walk and used a wheelchair.

The court heard that on the day of October 25 last year, Mr Black had been presenting as “disorientated”.

He had also been taking morphine and smoking cannabis.

Staff at the care home had been checking on Mr Black, and he was found to be well at 3pm.

However, when staff checked on Mr Black later in the afternoon, he was found lying on the floor beside his wheelchair.

A “joint” was found on the floor beside him, the court heard, and Mr Black was pronounced dead at the scene.

The presiding coroner Nigel Parsley opened an inquest into the death of Mr Black, the conclusion of which will be read in court in the next two weeks.
