A new Ferris wheel that promises to bring tourists to a Suffolk seaside town is set to start operating from August.

The 34.5 metre high attraction is set to be installed on one of the grass patches between the town's promenade and Sea Road by the Essex-based firm Observation Attractions Company.

Paul Hedges, from Observation Attractions Company, said permissions had now been secured for the wheel, including planning permission from East Suffolk Council and to install power.

He said: "We have got the permits to install the wheel, so hopefully if it goes according to plan, the wheel should be operating, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

In June, the council approved the wheel, which promises breathtaking seaside views for customers.

The wheel would have the capacity for carrying 144 people, with each of its 24 gondolas capable of holding six, including one accessible for disabled people.

In June, the EADT reported that the attraction would "add to the offer of tourism facilities in the resort" and would attract more visitors, create more jobs for residents and boost local businesses.

The wheel would also support about 10 jobs in Felixstowe.

Some of the objections received regarding the application included worries about constant noise and lights from the attraction and the lack of parking spaces in the area.

The initial plans to construct a Ferris wheel in the town were submitted to East Suffolk last year, with Felixstowe Town Council welcoming the idea in principle but raising concerns over its impact on residents.
