Formula One has Max Verstappen but one Suffolk 10-year-old is proving he's a dab hand behind the wheel after winning two championships in one weekend.

Max Taylor, from Peasenhall, near Saxmundham, not only qualified for the Ninja Karts championships but took home the British and Irish Open titles.

The 10-year-old travelled with his family to Aghadowey Oval, Northern Ireland to compete in their summer spedeweekend for the British Championship and Irish Open Championship.

He also finished second in the European Championships earlier this month, which took place in Foxhall Stadium in Ipswich.

Ninja Kart involves drivers completing laps of a short oval track.

The junior racers are aged between the ages of six and 11.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Max's mum Carrie Taylor said: “Max has been racing in the ninjas since he was six. He has been going from strength to strength, especially in the last few months.

“We are immensely proud of him. It's a family involvement with his nanny and granny coming to watch him, too.

“They all have to qualify for the championships, so it will be the top so many from each area, and he’s qualified for every championship since he’s started.

“After school, he does his homework and then he works on the ninja kart with his dad, Shaun, in the garage, getting it prepped and ready for each meeting.

“His dad used to race in national Hot Rods, my dad used to race Stock Rods back in the 80s and 90s, I have raced grass tracks, so he's been brought up around motor sport. As soon as the opportunity came along for him to get behind the wheel, he jumped at the chance.

“We bought him the car before he was six, so he could get used to it, and he's gone from strength to strength.

“He aspires to be a professional racing car driver one day.”

Max said: “I have been really enjoying myself, it's so much fun. I'm really happy that I've won, and when you know that you've won a champion and you're one of the champions too it’s really amazing.”
