Four fire crews have rescued a horse that was stuck in the Little Ouse River in the centre of Brandon.

The fire service was called at around 4.15pm on Monday to reports that an animal had become stuck in the river near a boathouse by Riverside Way in Brandon.

Four fire crews attended the scene - two from Bury St Edmunds, one from Brandon and one from Mildenhall - and a vet was also called to the area.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said that, while there is no information about the horse's condition, it is now standing on the bank and had been checked over by a vet.

This is twice in the space of a month that an animal has been rescued from the Little Ouse River in Brandon, which at some points can reach around 2.1m deep.

The owner has been contacted.
