The new landlords of The Kings Arms pub in Haughley have been announced - and it looks like it will be a bit of a homecoming.

Paul and Debbie Webster are set to return to the pub they ran 20 years ago after the previous owners confirmed they would be moving on to a new business.

"It is really nice to be going back," said Mr Webster, who is set to run the bar and front-of-house team.

"We ran the pub with our teenage children when we had it before, and now they're in their 30s.

"It feels like we are coming home."

Interest in the pub soared when it became available through Greene King, which owns the site.

Mr and Mrs Webster managed to pip the 17 other applicants to the post to secure their tenancy and were the first to register their interest.

"We were really excited when the opportunity arose to go back.

"We have lots of friends in the area still and it will be great to see them all again."

The husband and wife team have about 40 years of catering and hospitality each, as fully-qualified chefs who have worked in a range of pubs and restaurants in East Anglia and London.

"We will add a pool table and a dart board. It will be a classic village pub that will be a hive of community," said Mr Webster.

The pair have plans to open the pub every day of the week and will serve food from Tuesday night to Sunday lunchtime.

Mrs Webster will be based in the kitchen but her and Mr Webster's roles will be fairly interchangeable.

The couple is set to take over the pub on Monday, September 18 with an official opening on Friday, September 22.
