A Labrador puppy in Suffolk is now back on her paws after being left unable to walk due to a salmonella infection.
Thirteen-week-old Luna was rushed into emergency care at the vets after becoming lethargic, with a high temperature and swollen knee joints in both of her back legs.
The Bury St Edmunds puppy had become infected after being in contact with raw food.
She was quickly referred by the vets to receive intense treatment at animal hospital DWR Veterinary Specialists in Six Mile Bottom, between Cambridge and Newmarket.
Detailed examinations diagnosed marked inflammation in her knee joints, with her joint fluid infected with salmonella bacteria. She was treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain relief.
Luna’s owner Tanya Puk said: “The course of treatment went smoothly and the team at DWR was excellent.
“It was obvious that Luna was well cared for whilst in their care and I think she became very popular among the staff. They kept us well informed on the whole journey to keep our minds at ease.
“We now have a very happy and healthy dog and thank the team at DWR for the amazing care they took of Luna.”
Alice le Gal, a specialist in emergency and critical care at DWR, said: “Luna was instantly started on antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain relief and responded well to her treatment.
“She is a very lucky puppy and being referred quickly by her local vet to DWR, with all the different services on one site, meant she could be diagnosed, treated and back home to her loving family in no time at all.”
