Community in shock after 'harrowing' fatal crash in Euston

A man aged in his 40s died as a result of a two-vehicle crash on the A1088 between Euston, in north Suffolk, and Thetford on Thursday. 

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the crash involving two Audis at about 7pm on Thursday.

Despite the best effort of paramedics, the driver and sole occupant of the Audi A4, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The female driver of the Audi A6, a woman aged in her 30s, sustained life-threatening injuries.

All three passengers, two of whom were children, suffered serious injuries. 

They were all taken to hospital by land ambulance for treatment, where they remain. 

The A1088 was closed in both directions between the A1066 in Thetford and Rushford Road, Euston.

The road reopened at about 10.15am on Friday. 

Victor Lukaniuk, Suffolk county councillor for Brandon, which covers Euston, described the news of the man's death as "harrowing".

Mr Lukaniuk added: "It is yet another road accident and yet another fatality. There have been several in the eastern region in close proximity to Brandon and the district. 

"My sympathies go out to all the friends and families of those effected. It really is an awful thing."

Mr Lukaniuk said he will be investigating to see if any road improvements can be made to prevent further crashes in the area. 

He said there can be dangers on some parts of the road especially around corners.
