The current owners of a mid Suffolk pub have announced their next venture, having revealed their plans to leave several weeks ago.

Lucy and Grant Newland took over the running of The Kings Arms in Haughley, near Stowmarket, about seven years ago as 26-year-olds.

In July they announced their plans to leave, having "really enjoyed" their time at the mid Suffolk pub.

Now the chef and front-of-house manager are set to move into their next foodie venture.

"We have signed the lease for the restaurant on the site of the English Distillery, formerly known as The Kitchen or Oakvilla," Mrs Newland said.

The restaurant has been shut since April 2022 and will now be reopened this October under its new name, The Grain Kitchen.

"It has been shut for a while and has so much potential," said Mrs Newland.

"We are excited to be working closely with the distillery and hope to complement their business as well as build our own independently."

The couple will serve a daytime trade between 9am to 4pm every day of the week, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee and cakes, and a traditional Sunday lunch at the weekend.

"Throughout December we will have an evening service on Friday and Saturday nights, and then once a month from January. We want them to be a bit more of an event - so might have wine tastings, or themed nights, or a jazz band," explained Mrs Newland.

"We will be serving seasonal, local, fresh, homemade produce made in-house and are looking to support local suppliers from Norfolk as well."

Mr Newland will step into the role of head chef, with his wife as the front-of-house manager. Their last day at The Kings Arms will be Saturday, September 16.

The restaurant will open to customers on Monday, October 9, and the team is recruiting.
