A hearing for a Suffolk man accused of making a threat to kill Waveney MP Peter Aldous has been adjourned to allow a psychiatric report to be obtained to see if he is fit to stand trial.
Before Ipswich Crown Court on Friday for a case management hearing via video link was Neil Balderson, of Arnold Street, Lowestoft.
Balderson allegedly made a threat to Mr Aldous’ secretary in June last year to kill the MP, intending she would fear the threat would be carried out, the court heard.
The 56-year-old is also accused of sending electronic communications with intent to cause distress.
Some of the 10 charges relate to 999 and 111 calls allegedly made by him.
Balderson, who has chosen not to be legally represented, has yet to enter pleas to the charges.
Judge Martyn Levett adjourned the case until November 3.
Mr Aldous has been the Conservative MP for Waveney since 2010 and will contest the newly-created Lowestoft seat at the next general election, with the boundaries for constituencies changing.
