Norfolk and Suffolk: Country & Coast to feature Sutton Hoo

Norfolk and Suffolk: Country & Coast has aired the first three episodes of its series on Channel 5.

The footage, narrated by actor Bill Nighy, travels the length of East Anglia, meeting the people and industries that work in the counties.

Now, the team behind the reconstruction of the Anglo-Saxon burial ship discovered in the 1930s in the grounds of Sutton Hoo has revealed that it will feature in an upcoming episode. 

"This is the first time our reconstruction of the ship will be on a TV show (that isn't the news) in its current state," said project manager Jacq Barnard. 

"The crew used a drone to get footage of the ship in the long shed, which is fairly unique."

In its early stages, an episode of Escape to the Country also filmed the reconstruction of the ship, but significant progress has been made since then.

Interest in the project has soared since the Netflix film The Dig was released in 2021. 

With more than 130 volunteers working on the project, the reconstruction of the ship is due to be completed in 2025. 

The ship and team behind it will feature on Norfolk and Suffolk: Country & Coast at 8pm on Wednesday, October 11 on Channel 5.
