Suffolk media business Location Works has been announced as the winner of the Medium Business of the Year award, sponsored by Pound Gates, at the EADT Business Awards 2023.

With offices in Eye and London, Location Works is a father-anddaughter-run agency that was formed in 1985. It specialises in finding locations for filming, television, photo shoots and events.

During the pandemic, Location Works developed its Metworks London project, which utilised a derelict city building and provided an opportunity for productions to film on a hospital set created in the empty building at a time when filming in an actual hospital was impossible.

The once deserted building has been given new life thanks to Location Work’s efforts and is still used today as a space for artists to showcase their work.

Praising the “very impressive portfolio of locations that has been used in many popular TV programmes watched by millions of viewers”, the judges were eager to read about the “innovative approach” that Location Works takes in its location scouting and provision.

Location Works founder Kell Gatherer said that winning the title of Medium Business of the Year is “brilliant confirmation that we’ve been doing the right things”.

He commented: “We’ve worked very hard to get to this point... it’s not been easy, so it’s brilliant to celebrate our successes.”

CEO Lorna Gatherer Ford said that it felt “amazing” and “unexpected” to be named the winner.

“We’re very grateful and it’s been amazing to see all the other businesses that are here. We’re just astonished,” she said.
