The landlady at a much-loved mid Suffolk pub has announced she will be departing.

Sharon Shipp, who runs the Chestnut Horse in Great Finborough near Stowmarket, has said she will be leaving the pub after four and half years behind the bar.

When she took over the pub in 2019, Ms Shipp had to carry out an extensive refurb in order to get the pub up and running.

She said: "We scrubbed and scrubbed with dear friends for a couple of weeks in order just to get the horse racing again.

"We opened, and oh my goodness the community spirit was absolutely fabulous and so supportive.

"Everyone was so pleased to have their local back again. It took at least another month for us to get the kitchen scrubbed and fit for food prep."

She said it was a proper team effort to get the pub ready to reopen, and that she is grateful for her friends who supported the running of the venue.

Ms Shipp added: "My fixation was of offering good, honest homecooked food in a "proper" pub environment, and wow did we soar high until the dreaded Covid hit."

In April 2021 Ms Shipp decided to not reopen her pub straight after the pandemic as she thought it could "make or break" her business

However, she decided to open up a shop to help the community and also offered takeaway meals.

The pub was also popular with our readers after it was voted one of the best pubs in Suffolk

Ms Shipp said she has "absolutely loved" the last for years and getting to call the pub her "home".

She said she is remaining at the pub until January and has a lot of parties planned for the next three months.
