An irreparable village hall in West Suffolk will be demolished and rebuilt as plans submitted to a council earlier this year have been given the go ahead.

A proposal was submitted by Ousden Village Hall and Playing Fields charity in April and included the demolition of the existing site, which contains asbestos and was described as "uneconomical to repair".

Plans stated a new village hall would then be built on the land which would be similar in size to the current building but with the removal of the carpet bowls area.

On October 20, West Suffolk Council approved the plans for the new hall, which will host activities including twice weekly yoga, an annual fete, parish council meetings, breakfast and coffee mornings and quiz nights, amongst others.

Ousden Parish Council supported the plans and said: "The current facility is in desperate need of replacing and it is important for the village to have a new modern village hall to serve the community."

The building will be made up of two units which are then linked, with containing the hall and the other a foyer, toilets and kitchen area with a servery.
